SEPTEMBER 2006 |
From the Principal
Dear Palm Middle School Families and Friends:
We are off to a great start this year with a healthy enrollment of 695 students. I am delighted to be here as your new principal and it has been very gratifying to come back to the "Home of the Panthers". We have fully implemented our "Middle School Model for Success" and we are busy planning for a great school year where all students will realize their full potential.
The Panther Print will be published bi weekly. It is also available via the internet. If you would like to receive the "e-bulletin" version, please let the front office know. Each Panther Print will have updates pertinent to events in the life of our school community and Lemon Grove. Also, each Panther Print includes a "Dates to Calendar" section. Please be aware of these important events.
I look forward to meeting all of you soon! Thanks for the warm welcome.

FROM OUR PTSA
Welcome Palm families,
I would like to introduce myself. My name is Julie Croft and I will be your Palm PTSA president for the 06-07 school year. We have a great board this year full of dedicated parents. We do have openings if you are interested in joining our board. If you have only a small amount of time to give or more, we would like to welcome you. We meet on the 4th Monday most months. (Some months will change due to holidays)
We would like you to join our PTSA. Membership envelopes will be coming home with your students in the next couple of weeks. Your membership helps our school, Lemon Grove schools, San Diego County schools, California schools and schools across our nation. Membership is 6.00 per member. Remember, we are a PTSA which means your student may become a member also.
October will kick off our Fall Fundraiser. The brochure contains gift items, candles, wrapping paper and boxed sweets. More information will be coming home with details.
The Palm PTSA is looking forward to a great year. Please leave a message with the school office if you would like to reach me.
Julie Croft
FOR YOUR INFORMATION
Reading is Important, both in and out of school….
Reading and literacy skills provide students with the keys to lifelong learning. The more students read, the better readers they will become. Every effort should be made both at school and at home to get students to do as much reading as possible.
The California Reading List (CRL) has been developed to assist parents and students in selecting books written at a level of difficulty that corresponds with a child’s ability to read based on a single test score. Drawn from California’s recommended literature lists for students in Kindergarten to grade 12, the reading lists on this site have been matched to correspond to your student’s reading level.
You will find your child’s reading level on the back of the CST report that was mailed to you. If you need an additional copy, we will be happy to provide it to you. You then can find the website
Http://star.cde.ca.govPanthers are on Time
This week your child will receive the student planner. The student planner includes the Palm Middle School behavior code and the Panther Way. Please take time to review this information with your child, and sign the form stating that you have reviewed this important information. The form will be collected in advisory period. We are asking that you take a moment to familiarize yourself with the procedures regarding tardies and that you make every effort to be here at school every day, on time. Thanks!
