Black History Month

Hello Lemon Grove School District Families, 

February 1st marks the beginning of Black History Month. The designation of this month began in 1915. What began as the grassroots effort of African-American historian Carter G. Woodson has grown into a national time to honor the triumphs and struggles of African Americans throughout history. 

Since 1976, every American president has designated February as Black History Month and has endorsed a specific theme. The 2018 theme is, "African Americans in Times of War." This year marks the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I and honors the roles that black Americans have played in warfare, from the American Revolution to present day. 

Our school sites will be using opportunities to research and celebrate this month with students. Our children at Monterey Heights are holding a special performance along with our other schools designating experiences as well
