This year we will be providing an art program which will offer students the opportunity to explore different art mediums in addition to experimenting with various art tools and materials while engaging their creativity. Students will also be learning about art from different cultures and various artists throughout the year. We are very enthusiastic to be able to offer this program to the Lemon Grove students!
Michelle Lose has been teaching art to students in preschool to 8th grade for the past 20 years in Illinois. She holds a B.A. Degree from Aurora University and a M.A. Degree from Concordia University with a concentration in Visual Art. Her favorite part of being a teacher is seeing her student’s enthusiasm for creating art. In her free time she enjoys photography and fashion design.
Chelsea Rubino has experience teaching art within primary, middle, high school, and college level environments. The past few years she has been working with museum art education in Philadelphia and San Diego. She has a Masters in Fine Art from PAFA, concentrating in oil painting and lithography, and is currently a practicing artist. Both Michelle and Chelsea are extremely excited to be working with the students of Lemon Grove, helping them to discover a passion for art and creativity within themselves.
This year launching the Music Program, we will be offering:
- PreK, K, and 1st Grade General Music with singing, movement, and games
- 2nd and 3rd Grade will receive Piano training with the Faber Piano Adventures program
- 4th Grade will be learning the Recorder with the Karate Black Belt system
- 5th and 6th Grade will be learn the Ukulele to be able to sing and play together
- 7th and 8th Grade students will have the opportunity to learn Music First Software including the creation and editing of music through Technology.
This program provides multiple learning opportunities, through singing, movement, and instrument playing; providing a solid foundation of piano, a wind instrument, a string instrument experience, and technology for excellence in musicianship.
Kimberly Ransom comes to us from the Westside of Los Angeles, California. She has 13 years teaching experience, and specializes in PreK-8th Grade Music. She has taught abroad in two countries, Spain and Costa Rica, and has a passion for World Music. She is a Berklee College of Music graduate, certificated in Kodaly and Orff Schulwerk approaches to Music Education, with a M.P.A. degree from California State University Northridge.
Thomas Lilley is a San Diego native, and has worked in Education for 10 years. As well as teaching elementary music, he has also worked on the development of curriculum for companies such as McGraw-Hill. He has a Masters in Educational Technology from SDSU, and loves creativity using technical arts.
We are thrilled to be able to expand our Physical Education program at all our elementary schools! Our students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities that focus on skill development, improving overall strength and endurance, team work / sportsmanship and understanding the importance of health and fitness. Our goal is to provide our students with the tools needed to continue to enjoy physical activity and live a healthy active lifestyle for a lifetime.
Taryin Casillas has a B.S. in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Physical Education, M.A. in Education. Taryin has taught Physical Education for the Lemon Grove School District for 5 years coaching grades k-8. Taryin graduated from San Diego State University where she played softball for the Aztecs on an athletic scholarship.
Kevin Hurt has a B.S. in Health and Physical Education. Kevin graduated from the University of Mississippi where he played football on an athletic scholarship and was later drafted to the Tampa Outlaws of the P.S.F.L. Kevin taught Health/Physical Education in New Jersey for 5 years and in Murrieta, Ca for the last 10 years.
